You Don't Have to Make Something Beautiful

Not everything has to be beautiful. ❤️

There is a funny pressure that can creep into creativity.

We see beautiful things and suddenly our own little experiment doesn't feel good enough.

So here's your permission slip:

It doesn't have to be beautiful.

It can be curious.

It can be wonky.

It can be unfinished.

It can be completely ridiculous.

Try the colour you'd normally walk past

Pick a trim that makes you hesitate.

Put it beside something you would normally choose without thinking.

See what happens.

Sometimes the combination you didn't expect is the one that wakes the whole idea up.

Artists are allowed to change their minds

You can start with one idea and finish somewhere completely different.

That's not failure. That's the work.

Follow the material. Follow the colour. Follow the little voice that says, “What if I tried this?”

Your first idea doesn't have to be your final idea.

If you need a little starting point, wander through the Creative Finder or explore colour and see where your eye takes you.

Make something. Don't make something. Just keep the door open. ❤️
